National Guidelines for Legionella Control - Health and Aged Care Facilities

Wednesday 6 January, 2016

Late last month the enHealth project team released “Guidelines for Legionella Control in the Operation and Maintenance of Water Distribution Systems in Health and Aged Care Facilities”.

A CETEC managed consortium was engaged in 2014 to provide technical content for these guidelines.  These new national guidelines provide direction for health and aged care facilities on how to both develop and implement their own Legionella Risk Management Plans.

Hospital infrastructure is complex and plumbing updates may be not reflected in the available plans (due to undocumented retrofits / changes).  In this case, the development of a suitable risk management plan can be problematic.

The CETEC team is able to provide expertise to health and aged care providers and can assist specifically with:

  • Drafting and implementation of Legionella Risk Management Plans (RMP)
  • Independent review of RMPs
  • Legionella risk mitigation
  • Decontamination or disinfection of water systems
